I was watching a program that featured celebrities and their pets, and I must say I was really surprised, that I some of the people I have never really cared for in Hollywood were actually winning me over, through the care I witnessed them providing for their pets. I am a dog lover, but it did not come naturally. It came in the form of a person in distress dropping their dog off in my back yard. I just opened my back door and she walked in. I had always Taken pride in the fact that I could build massive walls around me to keep people out. Boy was In for a big surprise. This little 5lb furry creature stole my heart in a matter of minutes. I remember having a dog at one point in my childhood, but she was never able to penetrate my little heart of stone. Life had taught me to soon not to love anything or anyone. Of course that changed when I had children, but this is something totally different. Then I realized what is was that triggered such a love response. I was at a very difficult place in my life. Facing a major transitional birthday, difficulties at work, relationship issues. Then came Molly(my dog) and she in a sense rescued me. She took over a spot in my heart and became the love of my life. Whenever, I start to feel sad or low she comes and kisses me and gives me a hug, and the world is alright again. So what am I trying to say in all this. Well I am trying to encourage those of us that have raised our children, and don’t have grandchildren yet, to maybe consider a pet to fill that void. It’s not the answer for everyone but, maybe for some. There are plenty of animals out there who need good homes and organizations willing to help with fees and expenses. However, the unconditional love and affection you will receive from your new best friend will far outweigh any minor inconveniences.
